How Homeowners Are Selected
Homeowners must be low-income elderly, disabled, military veterans or families with children and unable to do the work themselves and must meet our low-income guidelines.  Homeowners must own their home and the property on which it is located.  At the time Rebuilding Together Oakland County does the work, a homeowners insurance policy must be in effect and property taxes current.  Due to the availability of building supplies and scope of special work, mobile homes do not qualify for this program.

Your income information must be supported by your federal and state income tax returns.  Please submit one copy of your past years federal and state tax returns, including all schedules and forms.  If you no longer file, include your social security statement.  In addition we need confirmation that you are current on your mortgage payments and have an active homeowner insurance policy.

These are preliminary guidelines only, and the potential recipient must complete a Homeowners Application form and provide verification of income, ownership, homeowners insurance and current mortgage statement prior to approval.  All information provided will be held in the strictest confidence.

Do Homeowners Pay?
All repairs are free for homeowners, and labor and many supplies are typically donated.  Homeowners and family members are asked to welcome the volunteers into their homes and work alongside them to the extent possible.  Our work is done with families and neighborhoods not for them.

Homeowners need to understand that if their home is sold within a twenty-four (24) month period after Rebuilding Together Oakland County makes repairs, RTOC may recover the cost of involved in rehabilitating the home. Recovery of costs may be waived by the Board of Directors of Rebuilding Together Oakland County in whole or in part due to extenuating circumstances that make it impossible for the homeowner to remain in the home.
